Cancer-causing emissions

• When extracting cancer-causing emissions, special rules apply
• These emissions are created when processing high-alloy materials (e.g. CrNi or non-ferrous metals)
• Recirculation of air into the work area, even after filtering is basically prohibited 
• This is clearly stated in the Directive on Hazardous Substances with only few exceptions

Air recirculation

Air recirculation of cleaned air is only permitted in certain exceptional cases if

• An individual authorisation is issued by an official body (national OSH),
• A recognized and tested method or
• A system or a device with a corresponding test certificate is used

IFA certification

• Certification of extraction and filter systems according to DIN EN ISO 21904-1 Class W3
• Professional Association Institute for Occupational Safety (IFA) acts as the certification body
• IFA-tested systems from KEMPER may be used for air recirculation for carcinogenic pollutants as per welding fume class W3

The regulations of the Technical Regulations regarding Hazardous Substances are to be observed, such as:

• the necessary supply of fresh air or
• their use is limited to the heating season

State of technology

• Nanoparticles of cancer-causing emissions are particularly dangerous
• Residual dust from conventional systems (up to 1 mg/m³) can contain billions of particles
• KemTex^® ePTFE membrane filters separate up to 92% of particles up to 100 nanometres
• A very large proportion of welding fumes consists of these nanoparticles
